A Blessed Baptism Brunch for Jack
Jack was baptized yesterday, and while the event was originally supposed to take place in April and it was a little strange being at mass with a mask on, it was a lovely Sunday celebrating out sweet babe with family. We hosted a brunch at my house after mass and it felt just perfect; a very special thank you to Megan and mom for all of their help!
The first thing that made this brunch all come together was Seattle Farm Tables. These beautiful tables are hand made and family owned by one of my sister’s oldest friends, Azure. Our moms met in an infant swim class when they both lived in North Seattle, and then were reunited not too long after when they found themselves living on the same street in Redmond. They still live on the same street to this day, and Megan and Azure went all the way through school together. As our family grows, my mom has starting renting these tables for just about every special occasion because they are the only tables that can hold all of us! So naturally, this event called for Seattle Farm Tables. They are SO beautiful and truly made the brunch… and obviously Jack just loved them ;). But actually, when Azure and Mike dropped the tables off and set them up, both Joe and Jack were so excited and they were so sweet to let them “help”.
Besides the table, company and it just being a special day for Jack, there were a few other fun things that made this brunch feel a little extra…
The first being basically having a whole pig to carve in our kitchen. Ha! Long story short, we have dear friends that live in Mexico City and for special occasions they always bring out a Serrano ham. So, because Jack (or my dad) loves ham, it was decided we need a ham to feed the whole neighborhood at Jack’s baptism brunch. That being said, it was so tasty and everyone loved it, especially Jack and Wu. And naturally, Chef Mike was in charge of that situation.
Megan had originally offered to host the entire brunch at her house which was SO nice. But Jack right now, is NON STOP and her backyard has cement stairs almost everywhere and I knew that would be a nightmare. So, I decided to host in my flat and turfed back yard but only if Megan took on the mimosa and coffee bar :). As always, Megan went above and beyond with her duties and everyone drank mimosas and magical iced coffees all day long. For the coffee bar, Megan offered both iced and hot coffee, with all of the fun things to make it even better. Peach, orange, and grapefruit juice were provided to make all your mimosa dreams come true with individual berry garnishes because COVID. Most importantly, she made “blessed” labels to go on all of the coffee cups to match the “blessed” plates and napkins AND found Jack a blessed shirt from Etsy to change into for brunch. I mean….. I don’t know how she does it.
Last, I have my mom to thank for the gorgeous flowers. Hydrangeas are my favorite and luckily she has about a million different hydrangea plants and trees at her house and was able to bring all of the flowers you see above. She told me the colors were changing given Fall is just around the corner, but it worked out more than perfectly to make this ombre hydrangea table scape. I love the way it turned out.
In terms of food, we really tried to keep things easy and COVID friendly meaning just small bites and cups so people can easily grab and go and not share serving utensils. From mini berry cups, to muffins, scones, croissants, donut holes, all the rolls for ham, and mini quiches from the Grand Central Bakery, everything tasted so good and was semi pandemic-friendly. Joe ate about 15 mini scones and muffins so we shall see how that works out.
