A Sun Valley Surprise & Our Favorite Things To Do
We just surprised our Dad for his 70th birthday in Sun Valley and think that it is such a great place for a family vacation. If you are considering going – do it! Here is a list of mostly kid-friendly things you shouldn’t miss:
Sun Valley Lodge to stay, eat, and play! We didn’t stay here this time but visited, the spa, had drinks in their Duchin Lounge, and took the kids bowling which was so fun. It’s the cutest little bowling alley with bumpers and games for the kids and a full bar for the adults – everyone loved it!
Galena Lodge for snowshoeing or cross country skiing and tasty beers and snacks afterwards
Grumpy’s for the best cheeseburgers and beers the size of your head
Sledding on Penny Hill
Ski Butler Service brings ski rentals to your door! So much nicer than have to go somewhere to rent
Java for amazing coffee and breakfast
A la mode is a super cute ice cream shop for the kiddos
Despos for a yummy family friendly dinner
Dollar mountain ski lessons for the kids
Konditorei Bakery great coffee, pastries, breakfast, smoothies – you name it! And where we pulled off the surprise for our Dad!
A little more about the big surprise: we went with a old school Sun Valley meets buffalo meets mustache theme which really doesn’t make sense unless you know my dad. He’s been called “Buff” since childhood, named after a Buffalo Bill song we are told, so we have always given him all things buffalo. None of us have ever seen him without a mustache, my mom included, and we found this epic picture of him in Sun Valley (he thinks he was about 18) with the mustache looking better than ever. We had the pictures made into big head cut outs here , Megan made old school sun valley signs #sevendecadesofbeingbuff, ordered everything buffalo she could find (like these hats) and we picked up some stick on mustaches. Buff thought it was just him and my mom going and was so surprised when he walked in and found all of us. Success!
