Don’t pinch me! I have all the Green things for you
It’s St. Patricks day so we didn’t feel right about writing a post that wasn’t somewhat on theme for the holiday – AKA GREEN! Do you know why you’re even supposed to wear green on St. Patty’s day in the first place? Well, I didn’t until my Stanford graduate lawyer of a sister sent me this article: wearing green symbolizes Irish Republicanism, a movement from the 18th century that campaigned for Ireland becoming an independent republic. As for the St. Patricks day pinching rule, apparently leprechauns can’t see green, so if you aren’t wearing green you get pinched – because that’s what leprechauns do… I guess? Happy St. Patrick’s Day Week
We kicked off St. Patrick’s Day Week in our households with a rainbow scavenger hunt! Special thanks to @kelseynixon for the idea. It was a hit with Sam, Emma and Joe! Jack, on the other hand wasn’t all that interested until the chocolate “gold” coins were discovered. Just pick some rainbow colored objects in your house, get creative with coordinating construction paper and clues (e.g., “A delicious berry named after its color and picked by Sal in one of your favorite books”) and send your children on a ROY G. BIV-themed hunt. Extra points for a pot of gold (e.g. leftover Hanukkah gelt) at the end of the rainbow, i.e.…
