How We Are Entertaining The Kids During Social Distancing

Activity ideas are popping up everywhere as parents try to figure out how to entertain their kids for the unforeseeable future. Here is what is working for us at the moment:

Baths

Lego bath, Popsicle bath, car wash bath, shaving cream bath – you know name it. Baths kill so much time. They love all the fun kids soaps, bath crayons, and bath bombs too; Joey is getting these in his Easter Basket.

This Lego bath will go down in history – 2 HOURS – lets hope we have a few of these in the near future

40+ Best Indoor Activities from Busy Toddler

Busy Toddler is always a great place to look for relatively easy ideas. I stocked up on all the supplies she recommends from Amazon like blue tape, dot stickers, post-it notes and black sharpies.

This car freeway/animal parade wasn’t a big hit but i’ll try again – fingers crossed.

Cooking/Baking

Our kids love to help us in the kitchen. We make cookies and muffins (https://www.runningwithspoons.com/ has so many great options; trying her flourless banana brownies this week) and try to find ways to get them involved in helping with meals (like the Rice Cake Lunch we posted about). We each have a set of these knives for the kids to use. Megan’s kids love to cut up veggies and make their own salads for dinner; we’ve both noticed when the kids are involved in cutting up/cooking their meals – they are way more into eating it!

Dollar Store/Target Dollar Section Activities

Unfortunately it may be too late to make it to these stores with the effort to social distance and store closures, but for future reference, both the Dollar Store and Dollar Section at Target have great little crafts for the kids to do – especially around the holidays. Our mom is the best and always hits up the Dollar Store for us.

Balloons

Balloons are a big hit around here – especially Balloon Volleyball. We grew up playing this and now our kids love it. It’s so simple: use some blue tape and tape it across a hallway or wherever, blow up a balloon, put a kid on each side of the tape (or you might have to be on one side, sorry), then play! The goal is to keep the balloon in the air; if it gets too frustrating for the younger kiddos then just do it without the tape (net)!

Board Games

My child is board game obsessed right now which is pretty surprising given how he rarely stops moving. We have played about 3679 game of Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders over the last month with plenty more in our future. A few other games we have and love right now: Memory, Red Light Green Light! , Go Fish!

This is my life in a nutshell right now.
