Baby Food Files

I feel like I am constantly trying to figure out what to feed Jack. Anyone else? With my oldest, Joey, I was terrified of choking and really just stuck to fruit and veggie purees until he was older. But give me a few years and my second child, while I’m still terrified of choking, I’m more comfortable with Baby-Led Weaning and offering him a wider variety of foods. At the same time, while I am not a nutritionist, I have educated myself on what things are most important for my baby to be eating. Healthy fat or Omega-3 fatty acid (ALA) play a big role in our babes brain development. So, with everything I feed Jack, I make the effort to incorporate the highest amount of healthy fats and essential nutrients I can (granted some times he just gets a veggie pouch and peanut puffs).

So, here are the things I’m feeding Jack that make me feel like I’m getting all the good stuff into him and are the easiest to use or mix into other food:

  • Coconut oil
  • Coconut butter
  • Ghee
  • Grass-fed butter
  • Avocado
  • Bone broth
  • Almond butter (the TJs raw almond butter is the BEST; only ingredient is almonds, is so good, and way less $$ than most)
  • Flax and Chia seeds
  • Cerebelly Pouches – I first read about these pouches on Hello Adams Family; nutrient-dense pouches for brain development that I feel great about giving Jack – I find them at Whole Foods (slightly more expensive than the average organic baby food pouch but I think it is worth it)

Breakfast (usually put him in his high chair with cheerios so I can make one of the things below/my coffee):

  • Happy Baby Organics Oatmeal and Quinoa with coconut oil or coconut butter and cinnamon
  • 2 Ingredient pancakes – eggs and banana – add cinnamon
  • Scrambled eggs – cooked in ghee – add chopped spinach and cheese
  • Breakfast pouch, mix in almond butter
  • Mashed avocado – mix in apple puree or banana
  • Toast sticks with avocado, almond butter, or butter
  • Green smoothie (spinach, banana, blueberries, flax and chia, nut milk)

Lunch & Dinner

  • Mashed avocado and bone broth
  • Tillamook Farm Style Thick Cut Cheese Shreds
  • Toast sticks with avocado, almond butter, or butter
  • Quinoa or brown rice noodles in grass fed butter
  • Mix bone broth in with veggie pouch
  • Veggies in butter
  • Whole milk yogurt
  • Cauliflower Rice/Fried Rice – scramble in an egg
  • Smoked salmon
  • Lentils
  • Green smoothie

All the snacks – I don’t feel great about giving him these aka zero nutritional value – but it’s really just necessary for me to get anything done sometimes and/or keep him happy:

  • Cheerios
  • Bambas/peanut puffs
  • Veggie Straws
  • Happy Baby Organic Teethers
  • Happy Baby Organic Puffs
  • Happy Baby Organic Yogis
  • Lara Bar (break into tiny pieces – just make sure there aren’t any large pieces of nut)

Other ideas from my dear friend and super mom, Hillary, that I plan to try:

  • Trader Joes Hash browns (they look like the McDonald’s hash browns)
  • Turkey Apple Meatloaf, Broccoli Cheddar nuggets and Chicken nuggets by https://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com/babyfingerfood.htm
  • White or brown rice
  • Banana bread
  • Sweet potato fries
  • Ritz Crackers
  • Orzo (good starter size pasta)
  • Grilled cheese
