COVID Halloween Plans

Unfortunately we will not be trick-or-treating this year due to COVID, but we promised Sam, Emma and Joe that we would come up with something for Halloween that is equally fun and candy-filled. Have you already made your Halloween plans? If not, check out our ideas below for some fun, safe and hopefully germ-free ways to celebrate Halloween this year.

As an alternative to trick-or-treating, Sam, Emma and Joe (with Jack probably toddling along behind) will be hunting inside for treat-filled pumpkins with the lights dimmed and using flashlights to guide them. Mallory and I used Sharpies to draw jack-o-lantern faces on orange plastic Easter eggs in which to hide Halloween candy. Unfortunately, plastic orange eggs appear to be the hot ticket this Halloween season and the ones we ordered from Amazon are sold out, but these skull plastic Easter eggs or these glow-in-the-dark eggs would be equally fun alternatives! To save ourselves some work, we also ordered a few sets of these pre-filled plastic jack-o-lanterns from Target. You can also buy these jack-o-lanterns to fill yourself.

We also picked up a few Halloween games for the kids from the Hyde & EEK! Boutique at Target. Hopefully this Pin The Skeleton game, Mummy bowling and witches hat Ring Toss will keep our Halloween candy-hyped children occupied while the adults imbibe on Reese Witherspoon’s Fizzy Apple Cider Cocktails (equal parts apple cider, Aperol, and club soda topped with champagne or prosecco and a dash of cinnamon). And this edible Halloween zombie slime mix with gummy fingers should also provide good entertainment for Sam, Emma and Joe.

Halloween dinner for the kids will be something spooky. In the past, we have made Jack-O-Lantern Cheese Quesadillas and Hot Dog and Crescent Roll Spiders that were both big hits.

And, we always serve something orange or pumpkin-based for the adults. This year, we are going to try Freutcake’s pumpkin chicken enchiladas for out thematic dinner. If you are looking for other Halloween meal ideas, Megan has made this pumpkin mac’n cheese, orange pizzas using a carrot pizza sauce, and pumpkin marinara pasta in years past.

What are your COVID Halloween plans? We would love to hear what creative ideas you have in mind for Halloween this year!
