Drinks to Try During Quarantine

We have been experimenting with our beverages way more then ever these days; I blame quarantine. It used to be strictly wine and champs around here, with a few beers on the weekends. I have never been a big liquor fan but these Frozen Gin and Tonics (and Megan’s Skinny Margaritas) are my jam. Made with lime juice, gin, tonic, and a little cucumber, this drink isn’t too sweet, is fresh, delicious and easy to make! I don’t really even like regular Gin and Tonics – but these are amazing!

Frozen Gin and Tonics

Ingredients (serves 2 aka double it):

  • 1/4 cup cucumber, about 5 slices that are cut 1/2″ thick.
  • 4 ounces gin
  • 2 ounces lime juice, fresh-squeezed
  • 4 ounces tonic water
  • 2 ounces simple syrup
  • 2 1/2 cups ice

Instructions:

  • First, squeeze the limes for the juice and slice about five 1/2″ thick pieces of cucumber. Using fresh lime juice is a must when creating cocktails.
  • Next, add all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth!

Boochcraft

Another drink you should consider adding to your menu is Boochcraft Hard Kombucha. Chris had been raving about these. It is California’s first hard Kombucha and Chris’s drink of choice when he goes to down to LA for school (he is just finishing an MBA program). He says it “packs a good punch”, isn’t sweet or bitter, has great flavor but is pretty light and apparently doesn’t make him hungover. The last time I sent him to the store to pick up beer he grabbed a few Boochcraft at the same time. The first time I had one I had to refrain from having the other one we had in the fridge. They are so good! The grapefruit/hibiscus/heather and orange/pomegranate/beet are my favorite! It is light, bubbly and pretty… and apparently a healthy alternative to beer and wine.

Megan’s Skinny White Claw Margaritas

Megan already included this recipe in her Taco Tuesday post last week but I’m going to leave it here again. It is truly what we have been drinking most this past month and what I crave every day at about 5 pm (read 3 pm). Again, I’m really not a hard alcohol or margarita person but these are amazing. Not sweet, super fresh and delicious.

White Claw Margaritas

Ingredients:

  • 1 shot good tequila
  • White Claw Ruby Grapefruit
  • Juice of ½ lime
  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • Juice of ¼ navel orange
  • Trader Joe’s chile lime seasoning

Instructions:

Pour some Trader Joe’s chile lime seasoning onto a plate. Use a cocktail glass (I use a 14 oz old-fashioned style glass) Take a lime wedge and wet the rim and then coat the rim in the seasoning. Add ice to your glass and top with 1 shot of tequila. Add lime juice, lemon juice, orange juice and fill the rest of the glass with White Claw. Enjoy!
