Patriotic Sangria

Looking for a celebratory cocktail for the Fourth of July? We have a good one for you that just happens to be red, wine and blue! Mallory and I tried it on a Monday evening with Freutcake’s mojito pulled pork on pretzel buns and the Summer Slaw from this post. The combination would make a great meal for the Fourth or any other fun summer evening.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 2/3 cup raspberries
  • 1 cup quartered strawberries
  • 1 bottle dry rosé
  • 4 cups chilled club soda or seltzer
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 mint sprigs
  • 4 lemon peel strips
  • 1/2 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Make syrup. In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup sugar, mint sprigs and lemon peel strips. Heat until sugar is completely dissolved and let simmer for 7-10 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. Remove lemon strips and mint sprigs.
  2. In a large pitcher (at least 90 oz in size), combine blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, rosé, lemon juice, and syrup. Stir.
  3. Let pitcher chill in refrigerator for at least 1 hour and up to 8 hours.
  4. Prior to serving, add 4 cups club soda or seltzer to pitcher. Stir and enjoy.
  5. Best served with a Fourth of July straw! Cheers!
