Holiday Cocktails

Dear Santa, all I want for Christmas are some delicious holiday cocktails…

Its Friday and I think we all need a fun holiday cocktail to kick off this first weekend in December! While our December calendar looks very different this year with absolutely zero holiday parties, we are refusing to say “Bah Humbug!” Instead, we are finding ways to be more celebratory at home. If we cannot go to the holiday cocktails, lets bring them to us!

One easy holiday cocktail you can try at home – a Poinsettia. Its a mimosa but instead of orange juice you combine prosecco or champagne with cranberry juice to taste. Pomegranate juice is a great holiday alternative as well. If you are feeling extra fancy, add a 1/2 oz. of orange liquor and a few fresh cranberries or pomegranate arils.

Want to step up the festive quality of your cocktail game this December? Serve your holiday drinks in ornaments. We purchased our clear 4″ ball ornaments here and drank out of them using fun holiday straws. Highly recommend you use a shatterproof , nontoxic variety and wash them prior to use (although alcohol kills germs, right?). Also recommend using a funnel to pour your cocktail into ornament to avoid spillage. Mallory didn’t have a funnel in her kitchen – good thing I have three!

And here are the nine other holiday cocktails that are on our list to try this December starting with Half Baked Harvest’s Pomegranate Champagne Mule that I made last night for Ryan and I. Tart but very tasty. Ryan tasted the first one as it came out of the cocktail shaker and asked that I make another for him! We recommend that you make one for yourself too.

Next on our holiday cocktail list, Freutcake’s Peppermint White Christmas, then a Cranberry Gin Fizz, a Pomegranate Negroni, Sugar and Charm’s Cranberry Thyme Gin and Tonic, Half Baked Harvest’s Poinsettia Spritz punch, Freutcake’s Moscow Reindeer Mule, a Saint Nick Special Cocktail, and Mrs. Claus Cranberry Whiskey Cocktail. We will post them on Instagram @letswineaboutitsister as we make them so that you can follow along virtually.

Not in the mood to make yourself a cocktail, we have a great alternative for you that all you have to do is pour: Trader Joe’s Cocoa Cream. For only $7.99 per bottle, I might start stocking up on this seasonal Trader Joe’s item like I do their Candy Cane Green Tea (which I buy in bulk when it its the shelves each year to last me until its restocked the following holiday season). I discovered TJ’s Cocoa Cream last year and was so excited to see the store bring it back again this year. Fabulous served over ice or added to your coffee – you really need to buy a bottle before its gone!

Trader Joe’s is also selling a Gingerbread Liquor in its stores this year. I prefer chocolate to gingerbread so I haven’t tried it yet, but please let us know if you do! We would love to hear your reviews, i.e. should I be buying a bottle of gingerbread liquor as well?

Cheers to the first Friday in December friends! Do you have a favorite holiday cocktail that should be on our list to try this season? Please let us know.
