Magical Cold Brew
We have a fantastic cold brew coffee recipe for you today! Ryan does not even like coffee (unless it has chocolate in it!) and he mainlined this magical cold brew. A recipe born out of necessity because, unfortunately, COVID-19 has closed our favorite Lake Chelan coffee stand for the summer. Which, while at the lake, we typically walk or kayak to everyday for an iced coffee. And, despite this closure, our kids still wake up at the crack of dawn ready to play on the lake. So we started experimenting with cold brew recipes… Below is the magical recipe we are now making over and over again.
INGREDIENTS
- 2/3 cup coarse ground coffee (we used this)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- Milk, half and half, or cream (we used Planet Oat oat milk)
- Ice
DIRECTIONS
- In a pitcher, mix ground coffee, cinnamon, brown sugar and 3 cups water.
- Stir, cover and refrigerate overnight.
- When ready to use, pour mixture through a fine mesh strainer (or a colander with cheesecloth laid over top) into a bowl. Rinse out your pitcher and pour filtered brew back into pitcher for easy storage and serving.
- For each drink, fill a tall glass halfway with ice. Pour in coffee until glass is about 3/4 full, and add milk, half and half, or cream to taste.
- Enjoy (preferably on a deck overlooking Lake Chelan)!
Note: This recipe is an adaptation of Food52’s Magical Coffee linked here. The original recipe uses 3x the amount of brown sugar and 2x the cinnamon. Adapt the recipe to your liking. We are not big fans of sweet or flavored coffee but we found the subtle flavor imparted by our recipe above the perfect balance for us!
