My Favorite Cocktail of 2019: The Spaghett
One day last August, Ryan sent me this article from Bon Appetit introducing me for the first time to the Spaghett cocktail. Initially I was skeptical (who puts Aperol in beer?), but I already had the aperitif and lemons at home, so I stopped at the grocery store after work to buy Miller High Life beer. And, much to my surprise, I loved the cocktail! As did my sister, Ryan and Chris. Just the right amount of sweet and tart. Cold and refreshing. So, when the sun came out this weekend in Seattle, and guess what I made? The Spaghett:
Recipe:
- 1 Miller High Life (take a swig so you have room for the other ingredients)
- Pour straight into the bottle: 1 shot of Aperol & 1 tablespoon of fresh squeezed lemon juice
- Add a lemon wedge to the beer bottle
- To mix the cocktail, put your thumb over the mouth of the bottle and turn it upside down.
In fact, I loved and made this cocktail so much last summer that when it came time to attend an annual holiday tea and favorite things gift exchange in December with some of my family members – my gift was a cute recipe card for the Spaghett with a bottle of Aperol, two bottles of Miller High Life, and a lemon.
The other 2019 gifts were equally fantastic. So, I thought I would also share the details of those gifts in this post along with my Spaghett. (And, in case you are wondering, our annual gift exchange follows the same generic rules as many other favorite things parties – bring your favorite item from the prior year with a value of approximately $25; everyone brings two of the same gift to share; draw a number at the table; #1 goes first each round.).
This year Mallory brought this Yeti mug in white and Husky purple (Go Dawgs!) because it manages to keep your coffee warm through your first set of morning meetings, school drop off, or your crazy morning routine with a toddler and baby-in-tow.
My Aunt Mary brought a mini kit of the Dazzle Dry nail polish system that includes everything you need for the perfect manicure (and who doesn’t need one of those right now!). The product is also hypoallergenic and nontoxic and promises to provide the fastest-drying, longest wearing manicure you will ever experience. Unfortunately, I did not take one of these kits home with me at the time, but I just noticed that Dazzle Dry is offering 20% off your first purchase and free shipping on orders over $30. So, guess what I am doing next?!?!
My cousin Katie brought these high rise Hanky Panky thongs because they fit so much better with the trendy high-waisted pants. The fit is amazing! I had a pair show up in my stocking at Christmas time. (Thanks Mom!)
And, last but not least, my mother brought the Mac Cremesheen Lipstick in the color Crème In Your Coffee because the shade manages to look good on everyone who wears it. I now wear it regularly.
Also worthy of mention, this year our annual holiday tea and gift exchange relocated to the Mariposa restaurant in Neiman Marcus Bellevue. For several years we had been going to Trellis in Kirkland for their tea service, but the restaurant has unfortunately shut down. If you are looking for a fun afternoon activity (once social distancing has come and gone), with at least a three-day advance reservation, a minimum of four people and $36/person, you can have Neiman Marcus’ amazing tea service complete with their renown popovers with strawberry butter and chicken broth.
Please let us know if you try a Spaghett during the warm weather Seattle is currently experiencing or another one of these other favorite products from 2019. Cheers!
