Gardening With Kids
My kids love to garden! They look forward to every spring when plant starts begin to show up in stores. Each year we plant snap peas (our backyard snap peas taste so much better than store bought!), kale, cherry tomatoes (recommend the Sweet Million and Sun Gold varieties), cilantro, parsley, and basil. And we also have perennial blueberries, raspberries, rhubarb, chives, an artichoke, and rosemary in our yard. This year we added radishes (which are a great one to plant from seed with kids because they sprout so fast), broccoli with a lot of success, and some containers of strawberries and something called a Hula Berry from Costco. In the…

Homemade Healthy Twix Bars
Do you follow Rachael DeVaux of rachaelsgoodeats.com? If you don’t, you should – for both her at home work outs and her healthy eats. Admittedly, this is the first recipe I’ve tried of hers, but it won’t be the last. These gluten-free, dairy-free, and refined sugar-free Twix Bars are DELICIOUS. So delicious that I have been treating myself to one every night after I get the boys down to bed. With a hint of coconut, the flavor is amazing and I love that they are a change from your typical cookie or treat. These guilt-free Healthy Twix Bars combined with a large glass of red wine is just about about…

Got Rhubarb? Make a Shrub Cocktail!
When we moved into our home over twelve year ago, the prior owners had a big beautiful rhubarb plant growing in the backyard. This then 27-year old had absolutely no idea what do with rhubarb (or how to take care of it!), so most years we simply gave away the stalks. That poor same rhubarb plant has since been transplanted at least four times around our backyard. Despite the multiple moves, the plant continues to thrive. Little did I know it was a sign that I should have been making rhubarb shrub cocktails! This past spring, while taking an evening stroll through the neighborhood, we happened past the home of…

The Perfect Summer Meal
At this point, you might have figured out that cooking and sharing meals is a major part of our family dynamic! Mallory and I shared dinner responsibilities last Sunday night – Mallory made the salad and I prepared the steak. Meals are way more enjoyable when you are only responsible for one of the dishes! We sat outside with a glass of rosé and this meal and it felt like we were truly kicking off summer. Now only if our weather would cooperate… Here is what we made for dinner: Mallory is a bit of a couscous salad connoisseur and this Real Simple Spinach Couscous recipe is one of the very best. With minimal ingredients…

Jack’s 1st Burger Bash
We hosted Jack’s first birthday last weekend at my parent’s house – a burger bash! I’m sharing all the details from his burger birthday – a super fun and easy theme to work with if you are hosting a birthday party in the near future! We served Dick’s Cheeseburgers and French Fries for dinner because what is better than a Dick’s Cheeseburger?! I ordered these Red Oval Fast Food Baskets and Red Check Food Basket Liners to put each party guest’s burger and fries in. Megan recommended checking QFC for a burger smash cake because I wasn’t having any luck and sure enough! I never would have guessed QFC has…

SHE CAN & We Can Do Better Frosé
We spent last week listening and are excited to continue learning and hopefully share a little of the knowledge we gain with you. It seemed appropriate to come back with a new wine recommendation and Frosé recipe from the McBride Sisters – a Black-owned, women-owned, and family-owned company. The first Black Sisters to create and grow a wine company, McBride Sisters is now the largest African-American-owned wine company in the United States. Because the McBride Sisters write far more eloquently than we do, here is what the Sisters have to say about their wine company: When we entered the winemaking business, we knew we would face adversity––breaking into a male-dominated industry as two Black women is NOT…

The Best Coffee Cake Ever
Trust me when I say this is the best coffee cake ever. A good friend gave us this recipe years ago and it is now staple at every family function including our future sister-in-laws bachelorette party this last weekend. This was devoured so quickly I wasn’t even able to get a picture of the whole cake. It is so moist and delicious and the only other word I can think to describe it is yummmm. We know you will love it as much as we do! Ingredients Cake 1 yellow cake mix 1 large instant vanilla pudding mix 3/4 cup oil 3/4 cup water 4 eggs 1 tsp vanilla 1/4…

My Favorite Baby Items from Jack’s First Year
Jack is ONE today and I compiled a list of our most loved and used baby products from his first year. After my second baby, I feel like I have a better understanding of what you REALLY want during that first year. Here are a list of my must-have baby items: But first, how cute are these Honest Happy Birthday diapers?! It’s kind of hard to see because I had zero cooperation from Jack but my girlfriend gave me this little pack of Honest Happy Birthday Diapers with his birthday gift and they are so cute! I had never seen them before. Such a fun idea! He’ll obviously be wearing…
