A Sweet Strawberry Shower
I showered my oldest friend on Saturday with a sweet strawberry baby shower luncheon. An intimate group with individual cheese and fruit plates and all things strawberry made for a lovely afternoon and I am sharing all of the fun details of this delicious baby shower theme below. The Color Palette I originally planned a totally different shower and had to change locations and themes last minute because of Covid. The original shower was going to be a luncheon at our local country club and I picked this pink rattan invitation to match such event. When forced to change venues, strawberry was an easy theme choice because this dear friend…

Got Zucchini?
Its zucchini season folks! This past weekend, my brother Will brought two HUGE zucchini over to the house that his colleague had grown and shared with the office. His question, “What do you do with zucchini?”, inspired this post. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the record for world’s biggest zucchini belongs to a zucchini grown by John (Giovanni) Scozzafavain in his garden in Niagara Falls, Ontario in 2014. His zucchini measured a whopping 8 ft 3.3 inches long (2.52 m). When you have that much zucchini, you have to get creative on how to use it. We are talking way more than zoodles, people. Here are two creative zucchini-based…

Peach-O-Rama
Each July, Metropolitan Market celebrates “Peach-O-Rama” (yes, I rolled my eyes too when I first heard the name) when they bring massive amounts of ripe, ready-to-eat peaches, into their grocery stores. Metropolitan Market’s Peach-O-Rama event is now more than twenty years old now, and permeates not only their produce department, but also their bakery, deli and prepared foods. Every year, we not only look forward to being greeted at the front of the store with slices of sweet, ripe peaches to sample (remember when things such as samples existed?!?) but also the store’s ready-to-grill marinated chili peach pork tenderloin in their butcher shop case that they offer during Peach-O-Rama. So…

Sunday Funday Grapefruit Cocktails
We tried two new grapefruit cocktails over the weekend and both were winners. Each cocktail was refreshing and light for a day in the sun; perfect for the warm week ahead and for all of your backyard summertime cocktail hours. We also pulled out an oldie but goodie recipe of our Aunt Mary’s to serve for lunch – tuna chicken salad. Served on a tasty roll, low carb wrap or boats of lettuce, this tuna salad rivals PCC’s and is the perfect poolside lunch for your family and friends. Grapefruit Kombucha Margarita Ingredients 1 cup tequila 1/2 cup fresh lime juice 1/2 cup grapefruit juice 4-5 tablespoons simple syrup 1/2…

Summer Sipping
Summer is finally here! Whether grilling at home or sitting poolside at our parents, we find ourselves gravitating towards the same warm-weather favorites. Rosé and white wine taste best in the sunshine and our Dad, our family’s wine expert, makes sure he has all of our favorites lined up. This summer definitely doesn’t look the same but it’s still time to get outside and have some fun so we linked our favorite warm-weather wines for you below. (1) Villa Maria Bubbly Sauvignon Blanc is crisp and sparkly and my idea of the perfect summer wine (if you are on a bit of a budget you can also give this less…

Spiced “Lamb” Flatbread
Happy Monday to everyone! Are you on the ball and already done with your meal-planning for the week? Or, are you like me this Monday, and wondering what you are going to cook for dinner because you spent the weekend playing in the finally-arrived(!!) Seattle sunshine instead of doing anything productive like grocery shopping or laundry? Ugh. Well, if you are in the latter group, we have a quick and delicious idea dinner recipe for you that will hopefully make your Monday a little easier: Metropolitan Market’s Spiced Lamb Flatbread. Yum! Living only a few blocks away from Sandpoint’s Metropolitan Market, this grocery store is a frequent stop if we…

Chinese Chicken Salad
This salad is a giant bowl of flavor and crunch and I have yet to meet anyone who doesn’t love it. It’s our favorite salad to bring to a friend’s house, serve at a gathering or eat al fresco during the summer. Give me all the simple recipes so I can enjoy the sunshine – just make sure to double the recipe because it makes for great lunch left overs all week too. Of all of my mom’s salad recipes, this is at the top of our list. Salad Ingredients 1 head shredded cabbage (I obviously buy the pre-shedded bags) 1 bunch green onions, diced 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds…

Easy Ice Cream Cake
Monday was Ryan’s birthday and there is nothing he likes more than mint chocolate chip ice cream. Every year, in celebration of his birthday, the kids and I surprise him with some sort of chocolaty-mint dessert. In addition to homemade masterpieces, past years have included, Jenny Cookies’ mint chocolate chip cake, High 5 Pie’s raspberry mint chocolate whip pie and Trophy Cupcakes’ chocolate chip mint cupcakes. This year I was admittedly behind the eight ball for Ryan’s birthday dessert. We had been in Lake Chelan the prior week and spent the weekend camping (see post here), but NYT Cooking came to my rescue. On Sunday, NYT Cooking fortuitously posted on…

Aunt Janet’s One Pot Meal
Originally my Aunt Janet’s recipe, this is a super easy family favorite meal that we grew up eating and I still make regularly. After being in Chelan for 10 days, I came home to an empty fridge and zero desire to meal plan for the week. That being said, I also really needed groceries and some vegetables in our lives. So, I Instacarted (can I make that a verb?) all the easy things I could think of that would get us through the week without much effort AKA Aunt Janet’s One Pot Meal. So long story short, this is the perfect meal to serve last minute that requires minimal ingredients…
