Living

New Year, New House.

We have been keeping a secret here at Lets Wine About It Sister…Megan bought a new house! Admittedly writing these words is a struggle because it makes it even more real. But Ryan and Megan bought each other new windows and appliances for the holidays, so we figured it was finally time to share.

Megan bought her existing home back in 2007 while she and Ryan were dating. It was then only about 850 square feet (2 bedrooms, 1 bath) when she found it on CRAIG’S LIST. True story! Ryan even proposed to Megan on the deck in the backyard. After getting married, they remodeled the home together and expanded its footprint but it really wasn’t designed with now 8-year-old twins in mind. They had been house hunting casually for sometime (even before Mallory and Chris moved in across the street), but became even more picky once they had the perfect neighbors.

The new house is only a mile away and still walkable but obviously its not the same as living directly across the street. There have been LOTS of tears. Mostly from Megan but the kids are very sad as well. We all agree its the right long-term decision for Megan’s family but are really struggling with the idea that “borrowing” a bag of frozen peas will no longer be as easy as walking across the street and that Joe will no longer greet the neighborhood each school morning with “Good morning, Aunt Megan” yelled from the porch. But, all things aside, we are really thankful to https://webuyhousesinatlanta.com/smyrna/ experts for helping us out through the process.

This new house, however, is NOT a move-in with your toothbrush type of situation. The house needs a TON of work – all new windows, new plumbing (check out this post for further details), new electrical, new HVAC, new flooring and LOTS of wallpaper removal. Megan and Ryan have decided to bite the bullet and redo the kitchen before moving in as well. They are also removing a staircase, raising the family room floor (and cleaning them with the help of professionals from Zerorez) and moving a few walls in the master bedroom to create room for a bigger master bathroom (see here now for services) and to fix a wonky hallway situation.

So in 6-8 months (anyone want to take bets?), Megan and Ryan are supposed to be able to move in and we are already taking applications for new neighbors. We are very picky! Requirements include bringing fresh baked goods to the house across the street and a desire to regularly share a glass of wine on the porch. We will make sure to share progress and before-and-after pictures along the way. And if you have any questions regarding the buying or remodeling process, please feel free to reach out. Megan, ever the real estate attorney, LOVES to talk about house transactions.
